About the Project

Mode Shift is a conference and research project based on the idea that “if you can change the street, you can change the world.” Together with Winnipeg Trails, we developed a name, branding strategy, and the design elements for the Mode Shift project and conference.

The result is an identity which represents both aspects of the initiative while giving each side a distinct voice.

Mode Shift is two initiatives under one brand: a conference celebrating human-scaled cities, and a multi-year study into the health effects of transportation choices in urban areas.

“Since launching, we’ve heard countless times from people ‘love the name’, the recognizable branding and the concept it embodies. I think in our field in particular, good modern, clean and crisp branding is important. Sustainable transportation is like the little cousin and something that unfairly gets treated as secondary already, so look and feel is important if you are going stand on equal footing with big players like the automobile industry or mass transit”
